From the superb Greenleaf label, we have new releases from saxophonist Donny McCaslin, Casting For Gravity, (which the Huffington Post called, “a courageous, powerful musical statement”), trumpeter Dave Douglas’ Be Still, inspired by traditional hymns, and the critically-acclaimed recent release, Initial Here, by NY bassist Linda Oh. From the Vancouver-based label, Cellar Live, we have new straight-ahead jazz releases by saxophonist Corey Weeds and his quartet, the respected NY percussionist, drummer and composer Lewis Nash with his quintet, and Wisconsin-born, NY-based pianist Steve Einerson, who leads a trio with his latest, Arrival. From the Bay Area, we have the debut by duo, vocalist Meklit Hadero and guitarist Quinn DeVeaux.
