The Kinetic Sculpture Lab is opening its doors to the community for a full day of creativity, curiosity, and treasure hunting at its Open House and Kinetic Garage Sale on April 4th from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at its new home.
Come explore the Lab’s new space, meet the makers, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible human-powered art machines that define Humboldt’s beloved kinetic culture. This is a chance for the community to connect with local artists, engineers, and builders who bring these larger-than-life sculptures to life.
Throughout the day, Kinetic Sculpture teams will be hosting a Kinetic Garage Sale, offering up unique, quirky, and one-of-a-kind items to raise funds for their teams. From unexpected treasures to creative oddities, there’s no telling what you might find—but every purchase helps keep the wheels turning.
Refreshments will also be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the continued growth and operations of the Kinetic Sculpture Lab.
Whether you're a longtime fan of the Kinetic Race or brand new to the scene, this event is the perfect opportunity to experience the magic of the Lab’s new home, support local teams, and score some truly unique finds.

When you get a new package of bees, there is the thrill of welcoming thousands of eager worker bees straight into your empty hive — a fresh start buzzing with potential right as spring awakens in Humboldt County. Installing a package is one of the most exciting ways to launch a new colony, giving you healthy bees ready to build comb, forage on our local blooms, and grow into a thriving powerhouse. It’s a rewarding ritual that connects you directly to the heart of beekeeping: watching that initial cluster transform into a productive, honey-making family under your careAs far as queen introduction: There’s something magical about the delicate dance of introducing a new queen to a colony — that pivotal moment when a carefully selected, mated queen is accepted by her new sisters, shifting the entire hive’s future with her pheromones and egg-laying vigor.Re-queening is like giving your colony a fresh lease on life — replacing an aging or underperforming queen with a young, vigorous one that can restore harmony, boost productivity and population. A timely requeening often leads to stronger brood rearing, gentler temperaments, and better overall health heading into winter or spring buildup. Please join us Thursday April 9 at the Ag Center at 6:00 to attend this timely, lively discussion.
