Listen to KHSU’s ARTWAVES tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 6) for Wendy Butler’s interview with Janessa Johnsrude and Julie McNiel, both Arts in Corrections teachers at Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City. Johnsrude along with Zuzka Sabata established Dell’Arte International’s theatre classes there through William James Association’s statewide Arts in Corrections program which receives funding from California Arts Council. McNiel teaches painting and drawing through the Arts in Corrections program at Pelican Bay including classes to students in higher-level security at the prison. Johnsrude and McNiel discuss why it’s important to them to teach there, as well as what creative projects have resulted from their endeavors. That’s on ARTWAVES Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. on KHSU.
