Carr Fire increases, more firefighters on scene, shelters update

Jul 29, 2018

UPDATE: Cal Fire announces a Carr Fire Community Meeting tomorrow (Monday, July 30) at 4 p.m. in Redding Civic Auditorium, 700 Auditorium Drive. Information is available at (530) 225-2510.

Wildfires continue around the state; however, the Carr Fire on both sides of SR-299 and stretching into west Redding is the fiercest. Cal Fire reported Sunday morning that the fire has now grown to 89,194 acres and still is only 5 percent contained.

There are a total of 3,388 fire personnel on the scene battling the massive blaze that has destroyed 517 structures and is threatening 5,012.

The death toll from the fire has now grown to five.

“Erratic winds and hot dry conditions resulted in greater growth and increased fire behavior during night operations,” Cal Fire reports, adding that a Red Flag Warning and heat advisory are in effect throughout Monday. Winds, high temperatures and dry vegetation continue to have the potential to fuel fire growth.

“Crews will continue to assess the number of damaged structures as conditions allow. As more damaged structures are located the numbers will adjust accordingly.”
