Fortuna's annual holiday concert started out 42 years ago as mostly a collection of community choirs and small bands. This year, Sunday December 9th, the Fortuna Christmas Music Festival represents musicians and vocalists from all over the county in a five-hour celebration of Christmas and Winter holidays. The county-spanning All Seasons Orchestra begins the day at 12:30 p.m. From then the music swings from barbershop to brass, and mariachi to classical vocal.
The festival traditionally ends with a audience participation finale -- attendees can sing along with the Hallelujah Chorus and Silent Night along with a stage full of performers, before the fest closes at 5:30 p.m.
The Fortuna Christmas Music Festival takes place Sunday December 9 at River Lodge on Riverwalk Drive in Fortuna from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Admission is free and you can drop in and out during the concert. Various community groups sell refreshments and the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department collects funds for the "Santa's Sleigh Service."
