Listen to the Jan. 15 Artwaves program on KHSU for Wendy Butler’s interview with LA-based playwright James “Jim” McManus  He discusses his approach to writing the play Radioman, which will continue its showcase performances this Thursday-Saturday, 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dell’Arte’s Carlo Theatre in Blue Lake. He talks about collecting veterans’ stories and turning them from monologues into a play with a substantive narrative form. He speaks about his evolving understanding of veterans’ experiences including those of veterans in his Pennsylvania hometown. That’s the second segment of Artwaves. The first segment of the Jan. 15 program is the interview with the play’s co-producers Eric and Viviana Hollenbeck. The play began as poems Eric wrote about his Army service in the Vietnam War for which his job in combat in 1968 was as a radioman.
