Singer and activist Alice DiMicele opens up to Danielle Orr about recording her 14th album, the loss of a beloved recording engineer, and her new band 'Force of Nature.' Regularly seen on stages throughout northern California and southern Oregon, DiMicele performs tonight at the Arcata Playhouse.

"Japanese stories and Japanese tales are very simple. To make it entertaining we have to have stunts and puppets and costumes," explains Japanese storyteller Kuniko Yamamoto  during her interview about her performance on the KHSU Magazine. Yamamoto's performance, Magical Mask, Mime and Music of Japan is the first in the 2018 Arcata Playhouse Family Fun Series which begins on Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m.


Animal sidekicks, audience interaction, silly songs and terrible puns make up the pantomime style in the Arcata Playhouse's latest holiday show, The Grasshopper and the Aunt, based on Aesop's Fable The Grasshopper and the Ant. Director, Sarah Peters and performer, James Peck discuss their new play, describe the classic pantomime style and sing us a song.


Teatro Pachuco Kicks Off the Playhouse Family Fun Series

The Arcata Playhouse Family Fun Series kicks off it's 11th season of public and school performances of theater, storytelling, puppetry and more on March 24 & 25 with Teatro Pachuco. This Belgian troupe features clown and physical performer Rudi Galindo, of Los Payasos Mendigos, and Italian dancer/actress Lisa Da Boit. Their physical comedy, dance and silent film is described as one part Fellini, two parts Charlie Chaplin with a latin twist of acrobatic dexterity. Quebec’s Le Vent du Nord knows how to turn the lost past into intense and beautiful performances that push their roots in striking global directions. The group is blazing a path that connects their Québecois roots to the wider world, in both arrangements and on stage.

  The first annual 02F Festival is kicking off March 2nd in the Creamery District. This festival’s aim is to celebrate creative women in our community. The theme of this year’s festival is Zero to Fierce: an opportunity to discover, inspire, and create.

Echoes of War is an original performance that documents veterans, their families and survivors of war and their experiences of coming home. Featuring live music and local participants, this original production premiered October 22-25 at the Arcata Playhouse.
