Los Angeles-based rapper, philanthropist and entrepreneur Ermias 'Nipsey Hussle' Asghedom was gunned down in a senseless act of violence on March 31, 2019. The loss of this visionary has made an impact on the hearts of many...far beyond the streets of Slauson and Crenshaw - the community he loved.

Nipsey Hussle was honored on The Place Sunday afternoon. Special guests included:

  • La Toya Fields of Compton, CA, current Eureka resident and Humboldt State University alumna
  • Thandisizwe Chimurenga, Crenshaw Community resident and writer
  • Marlan Washington, grew up in the Crenshaw Community and personal friend of Nipsey Hussle
  • Skipp Townsend, co-founder and executive director of 2nd Call, a gang intervention non-profit.

When asked if Nipsey Hussle was in 'thug heaven', Skipp responded, "I think Nipsey Hussle has to be happy that his legacy has created something greater than him."
