Pakistani journalist Ahmed Rashid
He has just returned from several weeks in Afghanistan. His book, Jihad: The Rise of Militant Islam in Central Asia, is now out in paperback. He's also the author of Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil, and Fundamentalism in Central Asia. Rashid is a correspondent for The Far Eastern Economic Review and The Daily Telegraph, reporting on Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Filmmaker Mike Hodges
Filmmaker Mike Hodges. His debut work, the 1971 Get Carter, was hailed as the greatest British thriller ever. It starred Michael Caine. A new remake of Get Carter is out in theatres, starring Sylvestor Stallone, with an appearance by Caine. Hodges also directed the recent film Croupier.
European Action
NPR's Julie McCarthy reports from London that European Nations are preparing to lift sanctions against Serbia. European Union foreign ministers will meet Monday, and plan to announce an end to bans on investment, travel and trade.

Greenspan Questions Bush Tax-Cut Plan
Testifying before the Senate Banking Committee, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan expresses skepticism for President Bush's $1.3-trillion tax-cut package and says Congress must to get the budget deficit under control before it considers any further tax cuts. NPR's Jim Zarroli reports.

Prescription Drugs
NPR's Julie Rovner reports on efforts on Capitol Hill to develop a "patients' bill of rights," which seems unlikely to be approved this year. Negotiators also are working on a "drug reimportation" bill, which would make it easier to import US made drugs after they've been exported, and sell them at lower prices than drugs intended for the US market. The drug bill's chances of becoming law are unclear. It is attached to a popular agriculture measure, and has a better chance of survival than if it stood alone.
