Kaiser Permanente says it is not yet able to give COVID-19 vaccinations to all seniors under the age of 75, due to a lack of supply.
Salem-Keizer school board adds first student advisor
The Salem-Keizer school board has chosen its first ever student advisor. Leanette Mabinton is a senior at McKay High School, and will advise the board until she graduates this spring. Mabinton testified in front of the school board for the first time when she was a freshman. This year, she has served on a student task force advising the board on the issue of school resource officers.

Northwest tribal members hope for collaborative relationship with Biden administration
President Joe Biden has taken a number of executive actions early on in his administration that made many tribal communities feel their needs will be represented. For example, Biden nominated Deb Haaland to be the first Native American Interior Department secretary. He also signed a memorandum reaffirming tribal sovereignty through tribal consultation.

Detroit wildfire survivor reflects on devastating losses and moving forward
Dean O’Donnell fled his home in the middle of the night as the Labor Day wildfires roared. The flames destroyed much of the town of Detroit in Marion County. O’Donnell lost his dream home and now rents in Salem. His business, Mountain High Grocery, still stands, but suffered major smoke damage. We speak with O’Donnell about life since the fires and what comes next.

Santiam Canyon students still recovering from wildfire devastation
It’s been four months since the Labor Day fires ripped through Oregon’s Santiam Canyon and residents are still in recovery mode. Angela Rasmussen is the principal of Santiam Junior/Senior High School. After the devastating fires, she set up a fund to raise money for students who lost so much.

Klamath Chamber of commerce supports business choice
Two weeks ago, the Klamath County Chamber of Chamber of Commerce issued a press release supporting some businesses making the “tough choice” to reopen. Klamath County currently falls in the “extreme risk” category of OHA guidelines. The Chamber says that local business owners are facing tough financial decisions, but should be allowed to make the responsible choice as long as they follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to keep employees and customers safe.
