BP: Oil Fields to Remain Open During Repairs
British Petroleum, operator of the Prudhoe Bay oilfield, says it will try to keep part of its production running while it replaces corroded pipes at the facility. An oil leak Sunday had forced BP to slash output at the field, America's largest.

NASA Chief Regrets Voicing His Views on Climate
NASA head Michael Griffin says he regrets voicing his views on climate change. Griffin had told Morning Edition he wasn't sure global warming was a problem. On Monday, he told a gathering of scientists and engineers that he had tried to keep his opinions separate but that got "lost in the shuffle."

Nervous Employers Slash 524,00 Jobs In December
The nation's unemployment rate stands at 7.2 percent. Employers cut 524,000 jobs in December. The losses were large and widespread in nearly every industry. It's the 12th straight month of declines. In 2008, more than 2.5 million jobs were cut from payrolls — the most jobs lost since 1945.
