Oregon's second-largest private sector employer announced plans to lay off 2 percent of its global workforce as it undergoes a company-wide restructuring, the company announced Thursday.
The Portland Business Journal reports the layoffs and restructuring are designed to more quickly get products in the hands of consumers while responding to the rapidly changing consumer landscape.
Nike announced the changes as it faces increased competition from Adidas and Under Armor, the later of which recently opened a new footwear headquarters in Portland.
The company's Washington County headquarters are likely to see the brunt of the layoffs, the PBJ reports.
