See someone talking to themselves at Winco? That might be a poet.

Audience-generated poem titled "Humboldt Taught Me."

Word Humboldt is a community of writers who gather at Northtown Coffee in Arcata to read poetry and support each other. Anyone who wants to show up, can.

And they hone their words in any way they can: by editing, by writing it on spot, or in the aisles at the grocery store.

What you're about to hear was recorded live at the Arcata Playhouse in front of a live audience, open-mic style.

Stick around for Word Humboldt's final act: they read a poem that the audience generated titled "Humboldt Has Taught Me."

Lost Coast Sessions is a collaboration between KHSU and PBS Northcoast. Some of the music in this episode comes from Twin Musicom (Creative Commons 3.0).

Word Humboldt can be seen each Tuesday at 6:00pm at Northtown Coffee in Arcata.
