The Jade/APANO Multicultural Space on SE 81st Avenue is a 5,000-square-foot community center with solar panels, the kind of project proponents say will be supported by the Portland Clean Energy Fund.

Members of right-wing groups Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer clashed with left-wing Antifa protesters in downtown Portland on Saturday. The march was organized by Vancouver-based Joey Gibson in response to conservative media coverage of Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s handling of recent protests, most recently on October 6 when a protest against a police shooting led to a confrontation with a driver. We hear from Willamette Week reporter Katie Shepherd and Assistant Chief Ryan Lee with the Portland Police Bureau.

The Washington state supreme court is the third high court in the nation to abolish the death penalty. Justices ruled unanimously that capital punishment was “invalid because it is imposed in an arbitrary and racially biased manner.” We dig further into the ruling and its implications for Oregon, with Timothy Kaufman-Osborn of Whitman College.

This November, Portland voters consider Measure 26-201, the Portland Clean Energy Initiative, which would tax large Portland businesses 1 percent on their revenue to fund clean energy projects and job training. We talk with Jenny Lee, advocacy director at Coalition of Communities of Color, speaking on behalf of the initiative; and Andrew Hoan, president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance, speaking on behalf of Keep Portland Affordable, the campaign working against the measure.
