Moral Therapy | Gates Elections | Mental Health | Rugby

A new program will provide a kind of cognitive behavioral therapy for people involved in the federal justice system — either awaiting trial or on parole or probation. It’s called Moral Reconation Therapy and the idea is to change the thinking patterns and attitudes that lead to criminal behavior. Laura Cohen from Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare will tell us about the nonprofit’s new partnership with the U.S. Probation Office and U.S. Pre-Trial Services for the District of Oregon.

There are three open city council positions and an open mayoral post on the ballot next month for the city of Gates. The problem is no one is running to fill any of those slots. The current mayor, Jerry Marr, explains to us what will happen to city leadership after Nov. 6.

ASHA International’s “Let’s Talk About Mental Health” program brings storytellers to high schools to share their personal experiences with mental illness and start conversations with students about mental health. Bekah Miles, one of the storytellers, joins us.

We sit down with a nursing student at OHSU who has just been selected to be on the U.S. Women’s National Rugby team. Rachel Johnson, who plays with Oregon Sports Union Rugby, will join the Eagles to face off against teams from New Zealand, England and Ireland in November.
