Preventing Doctor Suicides | Online Hype Of Restaurants

Physicians have the highest suicide rate than any other profession — including veterans — at about twice as high as the general population. Dr. Pamela Wible says she started her own practice more than a decade ago when she became despondent and overworked, and began having suicidal thoughts of her own. She’s become an activist for preventing physician deaths by suicide, and the author of the book “Physician Suicide Letters — Answered.”

In May of 2017, online magazine Thrillist picked Portland restaurant Stanich’s as best burger in the country. Just a few months later, their doors were closed. The online praise brought long lines full of “one-time” customers, wait times topping two hours or more, and it seemed the restaurant just couldn’t keep up. Owner Steve Stanich said the best burger award was “the worst thing that ever happened to us.” So is there a way to praise a restaurant online without destroying what you love about it? Restaurant critic Michael Russell and former restaurant owner Lisa Wood join us.
