As part of OPB’s coverage of the coronavirus pandemic, reporters and photographers are capturing “Postcards from the Pandemic” to document the lived experience of people in the Northwest during this historic and unusual time.
Many missed seeing teachers and friends in real life, others were pleased to escape math class and refocus on family time. Nine-year-old Penelope from Bend has stayed busy with science projects, or hanging with two sisters. She puts it out of her mind when their mom leaves for work as an emergency room nurse.
OPB’s Emily Cureton interviewed the children in this piece, while parents recorded them at home. Original music was written and performed by Bend-based composers Grace Miedziak and Chris Thomas.
We want to hear your experience, too. People of all ages: You can send us a voice memo by email to postcards@opb.org. And be sure to include your phone number.
