Laura Shifter: “How Do We Prepare Kids for a World on Fire?”

A lot of young people are living in this kind of agonizing cognitive dissonance– the world is on fire, yet everybody is acting like everything’s fine. The adults in the room don’t seem to care that climate change and AI and guns and wars are making the world a scarier place to live. How should schools prepare kids for a climate-changed future?

My guest this week is Laura Schifter, senior fellow with the Aspen Institute where she leads This Is Planet Ed, and co-author of Students, Schools, and Our Climate Moment: Acting Now to Secure Our Future. We talk about how schools can meet the climate moment, a related topic dear to her heart – what to do about rising heat and kids sports.
