You know the old saying, “It’s sometimes better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.” Well, we know that with our members, the wisest approach is ”It’s better to ask for patience than to try to explain yourself later.”
So, we’re asking for your patience in the coming months as we move some signals around.
If you were a BBC listener on 103.3, you may be able to continue to listen on 90.1. If 90.1 is scratchy or inaudible, the return of BBC on 107.7 in April should help your reception.
As you probably know, HSU recently acquired another station to serve the Northcoast’s Spanish-speaking community. Five foundations funded the initial purchase, and HSU’s commitment to the foundations was to make sure the signal could be heard in Del Norte County as well as Humboldt County.
nullBecause of delays in federal government approval for a final location for the new station (KHSQ are the call signs, by the way), we are swapping the BBC signal on KHSM (103.3 in McKinleyville) with the future frequency of Radio Bilingüe Northcoast (107.7) until we have federal approval for the final location for 107.7.
What will that sound like for you? If you are a Radio Bilingüe Northcoast listener, your listening area will expand significantly on March 1.
If you were a BBC listener on 103.3, you may be able to continue to listen on 90.1 (KHSF, Ferndale). If KHSF is scratchy, the return of BBC on 107.7 in April should help your reception.
We start the move on March 1, 2018 by placing Radio Bilingüe Northcoast on KHSM, 103.3 in McKinleyville. Then, in April, we expect to get back on the air with the BBC signal that was on 103.3. It will be at 107.7 from a temporary site, with coverage in Humboldt County.
After all the federal approvals come through, we expect both BBC and Radio Bilingüe Northcoast coverage to be solid in both Humboldt County and Del Norte County. Meanwhile, we appreciate your patience as we work to serve the North Coast with diverse programming that meets many needs.
