This fall, The Redwood Coast Energy Authority and its private partners plan to bid for the right to propose a roughly 12 turbine wind farm about 25 miles off the shores of the Samoa Peninsula.
Federal and state officials say the wind farms will provide climate-friendly electricity.
To make room for the industry, local commercial fishermen will lose roughly 200 miles of fishing grounds. With the help of the Redwood Region Climate and Community Resilience Hub, fisherman are requesting wind developers guarantee community benefits that would prop up the commercial fishery.
