Alejandro Zepeda
KHSU ReporterAlejandro Zepeda has worked for KHSU since early 2020, providing news, PSA’s, and an interview show called North Coast Conversations to the station.
He graduated from Cal Poly Humboldt in 2020 with a major in Journalism and a minor in Business. When he attended Cal Poly Humboldt, he was very active in the student-run radio station, 105.1 KRFH-LP Arcata- Radio Free Humboldt, being the station manager in his senior year, along with working in and with various other campus entities including the dean's office in the College of Professional Studies and the MarCom office for Cal Poly Humboldt.
He has lived in Humboldt County since 2011 and considers it his home. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the many natural areas that Humboldt County has to offer, cooking meals that utilize the plethora of fresh ingredients available in the area, or working on restoring vintage audio equipment. Alejandro lives in Arcata with one dog, two cats, and three roommates.

This week, we met with longtime local earthquake expert Dr. Lori Dengler to learn more about the handbook and other earthquake preparation tips and tricks. -
Northern California has seen numerous earthquakes and rainstorms over the last few weeks, causing widespread damage and displacement to its residents. In this episode, we met with Andrew Bogar of our local Red Cross office to learn about resources available to those displaced by recent disasters. -
Humboldt County has the distinction of being one of the most seismically active regions in the country. This week, the California Earthquake Authority leader Chief Mitigation Officer Janiele Maffei, visits to learn about a new Brace and Bolt grant program they are offering homeowners in California. -
For nearly 150 years, the Red Cross has helped people affected by disasters, both large and small. Here on the North Coast, our local Red Cross office and its volunteers work tirelessly to help get people back on their feet after a disaster. Today we are meeting with Disaster Program Manager Andrew Bogar to learn about what services the Red Cross offers and how one can get involved. -
This week, NCC meets with Chris German, manager of Hambro Recycling’s CRV Buyback Center in Arcata. Before opening its doors in April 2022, Humboldt County had been without a buyback center for nearly two years, costing the community money and sending countless valuable reclaimable materials to landfills. Since opening in Arcata, the buyback center has processed literal tons of glass, aluminum, and plastic, while putting money back in community members' wallets. -
NCC meets with Matthew Marshall of the Redwood Coast Energy Authority. Earlier this year, the RCEA unveiled California’s first multi-customer solar microgrid at the Arcata Airport. -
This week, we are meeting with Darren Mierau, North Coast Regional Director of California Trout. California trout is a conservation group that has helped restore freshwater ecosystems through action and legislation in California for over 50 years.
