KHSU's Lorna Bryant Receives Award From Humboldt State's Dr. Lisa Rossbacher

Peter Fretwell

KHSU's Lorna Bryant was presented with a Staff Recognition award at Humboldt State's Spring Welcome ceremony for her work and dedication to, not only the campus community, but the community-at-large.

Humboldt State President Dr. Lisa Rossbacher read from Lorna's nomination for the award:

"Lorna has become one of HSU's most valuable allies on issues of diversity, equity, and local racial bias. I watch with awe at her courage and resiliency as she shoulders university-wide - indeed, community-wide - issues well beyond her job title and pay grade. Despite regular social media trolling of her, and mass media inaccuracies about her, Lorna continues to show poise, grace, and class as she represents HSU and KHSU on critical issues.

Lorna's frequent saying about marginalized groups in Humboldt is, "If you see something, say something...but say it with love." That exemplifies how she maneuvers difficult conversations and issues. She displays rare courage and unusual grace in dealing with people. She is both fearless and kind - a pretty rare combination.

Lorna was on the phone and social media early on the morning of April 15, 2017. In the hours following David Josiah Lawson's slaying, she used her many contacts and friends to gather a "big picture" view of what had happened."

Congratulations to Lorna for this well-deserved honor!
