After days of silence, President Trump tweeted Monday morning about Friday’s stabbings on a Portland light-rail train.
The president said the "violent attacks in Portland on Friday are unacceptable."
Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Portland, was among many calling on the president to comment publicly on the incident. Two men died when they intervened last Friday to defend two teenagers from an assailant’s bigoted tirade. Another man was seriously injured, and is recovering in a hospital.
The president's tweet came from the less-active @POTUS account, which often tweets official business and White House happenings. On Trump's personal account, @realDonaldTrump, the president spent the weekend lambasting the news media and North Korea, while pumping up the Republican health care bill.
