An explosive device was discovered in the middle of a busy intersection in Bend Friday.
The device was found in the middle of a pedestrian median at 12th Street and Greenwood Avenue and reported to police early Friday. It looked like a 6-inch long galvanized pipe with a cap on either end.
Lieutenant Clint Burleigh with the Bend Police Department says officers blocked off the area.
"We were able to contain it and keep people safe until the arrival of the Oregon State Police explosives unit. And when that unit arrived they were able to render it safe," Burleigh said.
Officials believe that the explosive device was authentic and were able to disarm it.
The Bend Police Department is investigating the incident and requests anyone with information get in touch.
