Clark County’s public transit service, C-TRAN, is wrapping up sales of paper tickets this month at Vancouver-area grocery stores.
C-TRAN is joining with Portland public transit options in adopting a FastPass system that relies on debit fare cards. You can still get the FastPass cards at the same places paper passes were sold.
Christine Selk with C-TRAN says the new Hop FastPass has several advantages.
“You can register your card, so if you lose it or it’s stolen your balance always remains," Selk said. "The system is going to know how much was on that card when you lost it. It is a pay-as-you-go system. Once you pay an amount equal to a monthly pass you’ll ride for free.”
Fred Meyer and Safeway stores will end sales of paper tickets for C-TRAN at the end of December. C-TRAN customer service centers will still carry them through Jan. 31.
The passes cost $3 — not including fares — but C-TRAN is offering free Hop cards for a limited time at its Fisher Landing and Van Mall transit centers.
