Talking Business | Athletes' Mental Health | Family Shelter Portraits

Suzanne Stevens, editor of the Portland Business Journal, discusses the latest regional business news, including Oregon’s overflowing cannabis industry, Amazon’s expansion in Portland, Nike’s plan to use 100 percent renewable energy and new tariffs on solar panels.

After a high profile death by suicide of a Washington State University quarterback, we discuss the larger questions of how much access college athletes have to mental health resources. Our guests are Dr. Brian Hainline, the chief medical officer for the National College Athletic Association, former Oregon State standout gymnast Taylor Ricci and Oregon State University Sports Psychologist Dr. Fernando Frias.

Art Therapist and social activist Rachel O’Rourke spent much of the past year getting to know the families living at Gresham’s Human Solutions Family Center. Her resulting photo project, “Migration Patterns: Mapping Our Journey,” will be on exhibit at the Collins Gallery at Portland’s Central Library until Feb. 25. O’Rourke hopes her project will shed light on the experiences of these families and help people understand the circumstances that bring people to shelters.
