Currently, Portland landlords who own only one rental unit are exempt from having to pay relocation to renters whose contract is terminated without cause. Tenant activists would like to change that, and the city council is considering the change. Jamie Gerlitz and Lori Hellis, two solo practitioners in Bend who belong to the same consortium, join us to talk about their experience providing public defense representation to the neediest Oregonians. Gerlitz recently wrote about her experience representing Amy Fabbrini, who was fighting the termination of her parental rights.
