Earthquake: 4.5M 11 Miles West of Eureka

An earthquake occurred at 9:24 AM today. The magnitude 4.5 event occurred 11 miles west-southwest of Eureka, according to a USGS report. 

The hypocentral depth is 19 km (12 miles). There is no tsunami threat at this time, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

KHSU Facebook friendsfrom CR to Trinidad report feeling the temblor. 

Coincidentally, there will be a regional Tsunami alert test next week. Dr. Lori Dengler recently wrote in the Times-Standard:

For the first time Del Norte and Humboldt Counties will exercise their emergency mass notification system as part of the test. You have to sign up in advance to receive these notifications.
