Portland State University professor Andrew Mashburn joins us to discuss the $3.3 million grant he and fellow researchers have to study the effect of mindfulness and meditation on young children in preschool. The study will build on MindUP programs that are already in some classrooms around the state.
Camas Davis’ memoir, “Killing It: An Education,” chronicles the former food writer’s reinvention as a meat and butchery educator. After traveling to France to learn whole-animal butchery, Davis founded the Portland Meat Collective to continue her own education and offer opportunities for others who might be curious about the origins of the meat in their own diets. Along the way, she fell in and out of love and had profound realizations about what it means to consume meat.
