Indigenous Nations Studies | Student Dress Code | Oregon Teacher Salaries | Hospital Safety

Portland State University will offer a bachelor's degree in Indigenous Nations and Native American studies this year. It’s the first of its kind in Oregon. We’ll hear what this means from Ted Van Alst, the director of the program.

Portland Public Schools’ dress code is being adopted by schools around the country in a push to make dress codes more fair for girls and marginalized students. The Oregon chapter of the National Organization for Women developed the model dress code that was used at Portland Public Schools. Former Oregon NOW President Lisa Frack joins us.

A report released this week from a progressive think tank found that public school teachers in Oregon earn less than private sector workers with similar levels of education and experience. The Oregon Center for Public Policy’s analysis controlled for teachers’ time off in the summer by comparing weekly wages rather than annual income. Policy analyst Daniel Hauser joins us to discuss the findings.

A recently released toolkit aims to prevent violence against hospital staff. We talk with Philip Schmidt, spokesman for the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, and Elaine LaRochelle, director of facilities at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande.
