Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, signals his vote during a marathon session at the Oregon Capitol on Saturday, June 29, 2019. The Senate had more than 100 bills on which to vote before mandatory adjournment June 30.

It feels like the Oregon legislative session just ended, but we are already seeing the fallout from some of the laws that passed.

Public-sector labor unions are suing the state seeking to overturn a new law that reduces their pensions. And another new law aimed at narrowing the death penalty might affect more murder cases than lawmakers intended. At least one senator has floated the idea of convening a special legislative session to more clearly articulate who is eligible for the death penalty.

This week, OPB politics reporters Lauren Dake, Dirk VanderHart and Jeff Mapes discuss some of the repercussions of the 2019 legislative session.
