Heavy Rain Causes Landslides On Oregon Roads

Heavy rain around Oregon is causing landslides that have closed several roads.

Portland transportation officials say the eastbound lane of West Burnside is staying closed for now. The biggest landslide in two years closed Burnside on Portland’s west side last week. The westbound lane has reopened. But officials say the eastbound lane between Barnes Road and Skyline Boulevard will stay closed for “at least several more days.”

The Portland Bureau of Transportation said new debris continued to fall Monday. Engineers want to keep the eastbound lane closed to monitor what they call “an active landslide.”

Early Tuesday, the Historic Columbia River Highway closed between Multnomah Falls and Angel's Rest. That’s following a small slide. After inspecting it this morning, ODOT scientists decided the road should remain closed at least until Wednesday as a precaution.

And large boulders fell on the road to Crater Lake early Tuesday morning. A driver was taken to a Medford area hospital after crashing into the boulders. Oregon Highway 62 near Prospect is closed. ODOT officials said the slide is still active. No detour has been established and there's no estimated time when the highway might reopen.
