There is currently no vaccine to prevent contracting COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

UPDATE (2:33 p.m. PT) — Oregon health officials reported 122 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 in the state Wednesday, bringing the total number of known cases to 6,218.

Union County had on June 4 entered Phase 2 of Gov. Kate Brown’s framework for reopening. County commissioners announced Wednesday that they are urging — but not forcing — community members to voluntarily revert to Phase 1 guidelines.

“This is not a mandate, but a recommendation that the community implement mitigation measures consistent with Phase 1,” county officials said in a press release.

Union County commissioners also passed a recommendation that citizens should adhere to guidance related to wearing cloth face coverings and masks.

The Union County Incident Management Team is in the process of establishing a drive-through testing clinic scheduled for Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19.

The Oregon Health Authority also reported one new death Wednesday, bringing the state’s total deaths to 183.

As of Wednesday, 158 people are hospitalized with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state, including 26 who are on ventilators. Coronavirus has led to the hospitalization of 929 people over the course of the pandemic.
