The Oregon Health Authority has confirmed multiple cases of the coronavirus strain that originated in the U.K. Other variants that originated in Brazil, South Africa and California are expected to land in Oregon as well. Scientists are hard at work sequencing the virus’s genome in order to provide data to help with treatment and vaccination. Dr. Donna Hansel heads OHSU’s Department of Pathology, which is partnering with the Oregon SARS-CoV-2 Genome Sequencing Center. Hansel joins us to talk about this work and what people should know about the variants of the coronavirus.
