Welcome to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU, a program where we play a range of live music performances captured in Humboldt County.

This week we’re re-airing a group we’ve played a couple of times, local trio Harmonic Howl — made up of Ruby Ruth George, Elle Penner and Brianna Penner.

We’ve played the group’s piece “The Isle” several times, but this week we’ll be playing a less heard song — “We Want Peace,” a protest song written by Ruby Ruth George of the group. This recording was captured by myself, during an interview with Harmonic Howl at their rehearsal space back in June 2025. The trio is among the many groups performing this weekend at Humbrews for the Arcata Rising show - a benefit for those affected by the Arcata Fire.

You can find the full interview with the band on KHSU.org. And learn more about the group and upcoming shows at harmonichowl.com.

And you can catch them at the Arcata Rising benefit show — Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 at Humbrews in Arcata. Harmonic Howl will be kicking off the second day, on Saturday, Jan. 31, with their set from 12:50 to 1:20 p.m. Thank you again to Ruby, Brianna and Elle for letting me record them.

Thank you for listening to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU and tune in next time, as we explore more live music from behind the Redwood Curtain
