Welcome to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU, a program where we play a range of live music recordings from Humboldt County.
One local venue that is often sharing great recordings with us is Outer Space in Arcata, and this week we will feature a segment of an Outer Space show on May 17 that featured Canadian Folk singer Ora Cogan, and local groups Bleater and Octobercountry — which is the group we are going to showcase today.
Octobercountry, a Humboldt-based band that has been active for a couple of years now, is led by vocalists and songwriters March Adstrum & Gabriel Lubowe, who also alternate guitar and bass playing. This show also features special guests Jolianne Einem on violin, Rob Diggins on cornet, mandolin and viola, James Forrest on drums and percussion and Russ Thalheimer on sax. The song we're going to hear today is entitled “Pony”, written by Gabriel Lubowe, who said earlier in the set that it was written for his mother. The tune also features a fantastic sax solo from Russ Thalheimer.
To check out the full concert with Octobercountry, Bleater and Ora Cogan, and to watch many other videos of touring and local bands, you can visit Outer Space’s Youtube page @outerspacearcata. Thanks to Outer Space for providing the recordings and thank you so much to all the members of Octobercountry for their music. Thanks for listening to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU and tune in next time, as we explore more live music from behind the redwood curtain.
