Welcome to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU, a program where we play a range of live music recordings from Humboldt County.
A few weeks ago we played a recording of local group the Absynth Quartet captured during a live streaming event at the Arcata Playhouse in 2021. And it was a great sounding recording and a great show. However, sometimes we mess up here at KHSU, and during that show we misidentified the track that we played as “Robot 0,” the title track off of the group’s 2021 album of the same name. To be fair, the track was mislabeled on the video that we were referencing, but if we had done a little more digging, we would have realized that the track that we aired was in fact called “Powerlines”. Sorry about that confusion. But to help correct it, we thought it would be fun to air the actual track “Robot Zero” this week.
So again this is Absynth Quartet made up of Ian Davidson on banjo, John Ludington on bass, Ryan Roberts on guitar and Mike “Tofü” Schwartz on drums. Again this was captured at the Arcata Playhouse during a live streaming event, held during the height of COVID, sponsored by Western Chapter International Society of Arboriculture.
You can view the full performance video below and you can find the “Robot Zero” album and more of Absynth Quartet’s music on all streaming platforms. Thanks so much to the musicians, to Arcata Playhouse, the Western Chapter International Society of Arboriculture and to Tofu for sharing the recording.
Thanks for listening to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU and tune in next time, as we explore more live music from behind the redwood curtain.
