North Coast Conversations: Cal Poly Humboldt Rivers Institute

This week, we are meeting with Dr. Allison O’Dowd, a professor in the department of environmental science and management at Cal Poly Humboldt and co-director of the Cal Poly Humboldt River Institute.

The Cal Poly Humboldt Rivers Institute aims to research, conserve and restore river systems in the North Coast and beyond. Some of the projects that they have been an integral part of include the removal of dams along the Klamath River, along with studies of local salmonids, and studying water flows on some of the many rivers that flow through the North Coast. The research they gather is of the utmost importance for understanding trends along our river ecosystems and how we can ensure their preservation.

To learn more about the Rivers institute and stay up to date with their projects, please visit their website at https://riverinstitute.humboldt.edu/

Thank you for listening, and stay tuned for more episodes of North Coast Conversations as we explore more of what the North Coast offers.

Alejandro Zepeda has worked for KHSU since early 2020, providing news, PSA’s, and an interview show called North Coast Conversations to the station.
