North Coast Conversations: Food Sovereignty Lab

This week, we meet with Carrie Tully and Karlie Rojas from Cal Poly Humboldt’s Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty lab. “Rou Dalagurr,” which means “everyone works” or “work together” in the Yurok language, is set to officially open for the fall 2022 semester. The FSL aims to bridge the gap between traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and the modern world, along with preserving native traditions for future generations to partake in.

In the meantime, the Native American Studies department has set up a series of events for this week, including a speaker series, film showings, and an indigenous foods festival. I met with Carrie and Karlie via zoom to learn more about the Lab and some of its upcoming events.

To learn more about the NAS Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty lab and stay up to date with ongoing events and projects, please visit their website at nasp.humboldt.edu/fsl or follow their social media accounts @hsu_nas on Instagram or @FoodSovereigntyLab / @hsunasp on Facebook.

Thank you for listening and stay tuned for more episodes of North Coast Conversations as we explore more of what the North Coast has to offer.

Alejandro Zepeda has worked for KHSU since early 2020, providing news, PSA’s, and an interview show called North Coast Conversations to the station.
