North Coast Conversations: Humboldt Tenant Landlord Collaboration Revisited

This week, we are meeting once again with Chant’e Catt, of the Humboldt Tenant Landlord Collaboration. After moving to Humboldt County as a student and experiencing housing insecurity firsthand with her infant daughter, Chant’e set out to help find solutions to housing insecurity, and have a way for both landlords and tenants to be informed about their rights and responsibilities. Through extensive research and hundreds of hours of volunteer work and community outreach, an online program was developed with the goal of building equitable relationships between the university, community, landlords, and tenants called the Humboldt Tenant Landlord Collaboration, or HTLC for short

Chant’e is proud to announce that the HTLC will have its first in-person course that will take place at 10am at the Arcata neighborhood D street center on July 8th.

The Humboldt Tenant Landlord collaboration is a 10 module, 4 hour long program available for both tenants and landlords. This project was a culmination of hundreds of volunteer hours and is intended to help those navigating the process of securing housing and/or maintaining a residence for rental purposes. Participants who finish the program will receive the Good Neighbor Certificate of Completion, a Humboldt County Renters Handbook, and access to community housing resources. All course materials are accessible and available in a text and audio-friendly format. Using Google Translate, the course is available in dozens of languages. The program was also designed open-sourced so that colleges and universities across the nation can use the template to create a similar housing education program in their communities.
