North Coast Conversations: The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Arcata Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk

September is suicide prevention month, and this week I'm meeting with Heather Freitas of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to learn about the upcoming Arcata The Out of the Darkness Community Walk.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are held across the country. They are a journey of remembrance, hope, and support, uniting communities and providing an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Arcata’s Community walk will be taking place this Sunday, September 10th at 9am on the plaza. There will be speakers, music, and resources available for the community. The walk starts at 10, will follow a small loop around Arcata, and will conclude with a small closing ceremony on the plaza.

For more information about the Arcata Community Walk, visit afsp.org/arcata, contact Heather Freitas at (707) 721-4062, or email arcataoutofthedarkness@gmail.com.

If you or someone you know is enduring hardship, There are resources available, and there is hope. Visit afsp.org, call or text 988, or text TALK to 741741.

Thank you for listening and stay tuned for more episodes of North Coast Conversations as we explore more of what the North Coast has to offer.
