North Coast Conversations: Humboldt Bay Mycological Society's Mushroom Fair

While the leaves may be changing color, and the sun may be setting sooner, Fall in Humboldt county is anything but drab. The falling leaves and plentiful rain makes the forest floor come to life with hundreds of fungi all spreading their spores and growing their fruits.

For 45 years, the Humboldt Bay Mycological Society has been hosting the Mushroom Fair to help showcase the hundreds of local varieties, as well as educate the public on identification and growing methods, helping to demystify the fungi.

This week I met with Fair Chair Kendall William to learn more.

The 45th annual Humboldt Bay Mycological Society Mushroom fair will be taking place on Sunday, November 19th at the Arcata Community Center from 11-4. HBMS Members can enjoy an hour of early access at 10am.

Visit their Websiteor Facebook page for more information about the fair and details on how to join, as well as information on upcoming meetings and field trips.

Thank you for listening and stay tuned for more episodes of North Coast Conversations as we explore more of what the North Coast has to offer.

Alejandro Zepeda has worked for KHSU since early 2020, providing news, PSA’s, and an interview show called North Coast Conversations to the station.
