It is no mystery that Humboldt County is always in need of more mental health services, and our area has been particularly lacking in mental health resources for children and adolescents, causing hospitals and pediatricians to be overwhelmed with caring for youth in a mental health crisis.
But now, after more than four years of planning, the Sorrel Leaf healing center is nearly ready to open, providing the only mental health facility for children and teens for about 150 miles. This week we met with Shireen Varga, Executive Director of Sorrel leaf, to tour the under-construction center, and learn more about the services the center will provide through residential treatment, mobile support and after crisis care.
That was Shireen Varga, Executive Director of the Sorrel leaf healing center, which will provide mental health support services for our local youth. The center has am inaugural gala happening this Friday Sept 11 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the sequoia conference center in Eureka.
