Sep 14 Sunday
Join Sanctuary Forest on Sunday, September 14 for the Restoration to Recreation Hike, led by Tasha McKee and Cam Thompson. Participants will be introduced to Sanctuary Forest’s restoration work in the McKee Creek tributary of the Mattole River, including log and boulder weirs, large wood loading and riparian forest thinning, followed by a moderate to difficult hike over the ridge to the Vanauken Creek watershed, where Sanctuary Forest is both working to create a community forest and conduct restoration activities to improve streamflow and salmonid habitat. Meet at the Sanctuary Forest office in Whitethorn at 9 a.m., the tour will end between 4-5 p.m. Bring lunch, plenty of water, dress in layers and wear sturdy hiking shoes. This hike is free of charge, though donations are gladly accepted and help Sanctuary Forest to offer this program year after year.
