Artist Reception: Oils & Stained Glass
Artist Reception: Oils & Stained Glass
Trinidad Art Gallery will celebrate the work of stained glass artist Colleen Clifford and painter Rachel Robinson with an opening reception as part of Trinidad Arts Night. Join us for snacks, wine pour benefitting Trinidad Coastal Land Trust, live music with Ryan Roberts and friends, and an opportunity to meet many of the gallery's 25 local artists.
Colleen Clifford learned the art of stained glass at her Madison, Wisconsin high school, and was immediately inspired. She is a 2002 graduate of HSU with a major in Studio Art focused on fine metal-smithing, and a minor in Appropriate Technology. About the medium she says: “Using glass allows me to play with light, texture and color in a unique way. Taking a design from a sketch to a completed window requires aesthetic and technical experience as well as artistic imagination. I love to feel the creative force of art bonding with the traditional craft.”
Rachel Robinson works primarily in large format oil painting. She is a 2014 graduate of HSU with a major in Studio Art. She often finds inspiration for her subjects while pedaling her bicycle through the redwoods and alongside the ocean. She says “In my new work, I am daring myself to find new direction by defying my usual grip on control. After having spent hours refining a subject, I find great pleasure and joy in wrecking the refinement and seeing the element of chance magically guide the way.”
Trinidad Art Gallery is a cooperative of local artists, located in an historic Trinidad house that has been a hub for the arts for more than 40 years. 490 Trinity Street, open daily from 10am - 5pm.
