With the Humboldt County Fair unable to hold horse racing this year, organizers have scrambled to find other events to help fill the grandstands. On opening day, the fair partnered with the Kinetic Universe to bring a new event to the racetrack — the Kinetic Obstacle Exhibition Derby (KO-ED).
This week we met with one of the organizers, Olivia Gambino — 2024 Rutabaga Queen and member of the Kinetic Universe board — to discuss the zany experience, race results and how she hopes to keep the event going in the future.
Kinetics will be hosting a BBQ potluck at Redwood Park on Sun. Aug 31, and the Kinetic Classic — a mini kinetic race for kids — at the Jefferson Community Center on Sunday, Sep. 14.
