Heard in Humboldt: A Company of Voices

Welcome to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU, a program where we play a range of live music recordings from Humboldt County.

We got such great feedback on last week’s episode that we’re again re-airing something from the old the Lost Coast Sessions - a partnership between KHSU and PBS North Coast that was originally hosted by Monica Topping on KHSU.

This recording is of A Company of Voices – a local chamber choir led by co-directors Elizabeth Harrington and, at the time of this recording, Anna Gaines. This recording was captured live at the Arcata Playhouse and was first aired in 2018.

We’ll start of with the groups performance of, "When the Earth Stands Still, by Don McDonald, followed by “Sing My Child” and “Songbird," both composed by Sarah Quartel. "Songbird" features only the women members of the choir. and "Sing My Child" features choir member Greta Stockwell on percussion.

Thank you to the directors and all the singers from a Company of Voices, thank you to the Arcata Playhouse, to KEET PBS North Coast and everyone involved Lost Coast Sessions. You can find the full Lost Coast Sessions recording here.

Thanks for listening to Heard in Humboldt on KHSU and tune in next time, as we explore more live music from behind the redwood curtain.

And if you’re a local musician who would like your live recordings featured on Heard in Humboldt, send us an email to khsu@humboldt.edu
