This week, we are meeting with Kimberly White, Co-coordinator of Community United of North Arcata (Comunidad Unida del Norte de Arcata), also known as CUNA, to learn more about their recently opened Resilience Hub.
Located in Arcata's Valley West Neighborhood, CUNA is a grassroots, Latinx-led bilingual project focused on creating a better-represented Valley West. North Arcata is a traditionally underserved, disadvantaged, and vulnerable community, often referred to as the "other Arcata" or Arcata's "Black Sheep."
Many Valley West residents lack reliable transportation, something that could prove vital in case of a disaster. The Cuna Resilience Hub aims to bridge the gap in services should the need arise.
Outside of disaster, CUNA plans to make the Resilience Hub a community center, to help strengthen the sense of community, and teach new skills, and provide a space for workshops.
CUNA is always looking for more volunteers. To learn more, visit their website, or follow them on Facebook or Instagram.
Thank you for listening and stay tuned for more episodes of North Coast Conversations as we explore more of what the North Coast has to offer.
