Since 2013, the Mr. Humboldt Pageant – a raucous, spoof-style pageant competition – has been entertaining our community, while also helping it by donating the event’s earnings to local charities and nonprofit organizations. When COVID hit, the event was forced to take a hiatus. Now, after five years off, the Mr. Humboldt pageant has finally returned to bring its unique brand of entertainment to the Arcata Theatre Lounge on Feb. 14 and 15.

This week we met with Johanna Nagan, co-founder of the Mr. Humboldt Pageant, to learn more about how the event got started, the joy of giving donations to local nonprofits and what to expect from this year’s triumphant return.

Thank you for listening and stay tuned for more episodes of North Coast Conversations as we explore more of what the North Coast has to offer.

Raised in Arcata, Stephanie McGeary has lived in Humboldt County for most of her life and is proud to share stories about this weird and beautiful place that she calls home.
