North Coast Conversations: 'Mythbusting' Mental Health in Eureka

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to focus on addressing the challenges faced by those living with mental health conditions. The City of Eureka, in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, is kicking off the month with a community town hall called Mythbusting Mental Health.

This week we met with Eureka Mayor Kim Bergel and Eureka’s Managing Mental Health Clinician Jacob Rosen to learn more about the upcoming community town hall, the importance of mental health awareness in Humboldt, and how you can get involved.

The Mythbusting Mental Health Community Town Hall will take place on Sunday, May 4 from 11 am to 4 pm at the Wharfinger Building. You can find more info at the City of Eureka's website.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, you can call or text the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 9-8-8.

Raised in Arcata, Stephanie McGeary has lived in Humboldt County for most of her life and is proud to share stories about this weird and beautiful place that she calls home.
Alejandro Zepeda has worked for KHSU since early 2020, providing news, PSA’s, and an interview show called North Coast Conversations to the station.
